About the Holme Park way
Learning English the Holme Park way offers overseas students between the ages of 8-14 years the perfect opportunity in which to learn English, at whatever the student’s level and ability, through our English language study holiday programme . We aim to give our students the holiday of a life-time whilst developing their use of English and knowledge of the United Kingdom through our unique, specialised programme.
For 10 years, the Holme Park Experience took place at Holme Park School, in the English Lake District; it has now re-located to the equally stunning surroundings of Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn. Kilgraston is an exclusive private school which, amongst many other facilities, boasts its own riding stables, sports hall and swimming pool complex. It lies within easy reach of Scotland’s historic and cosmopolitan capital city, Edinburgh and offers un-paralled access to activities, excursions and attractions in both Scotland and the North of England.
Holme Park is small, friendly and personal. The directors, who are both teachers with over 30 years teaching experience, are the resident staff and know every student by name - thanks to their everyday contact with young people in their care. We feel that for younger students from overseas we offer a very special, family-like atmosphere that helps them to settle and feel at home very quickly. In 2007 40% of the students who attended the Holme Park Experience were returning for their second, third, fourth or, in a few cases, fifth visit!
We offer short term courses of 2-8 weeks, which are specifically designed to improve a young student’s English and their understanding of the UK whilst having a truly memorable and enjoyable holiday.
Our study holidays are available in March and April, July and August. 10 day courses can be taken in February and October.
Courses are available for students arriving as a group, or individuals who arrive independently and make friends once they arrive. Each student is placed in a group appropriate to his or her level of ability, which is assessed on arrival. The accommodation is structured so that nationalities are mixed as much as possible: in the classrooms, the dormitories, for excursions and activities and during meal times!
Whenever the courses are taken, they include the following features:
- 15 hours of English tuition per week
- Small classes of 4-14 students, taught by fully qualified EFL teachers
- Full board in dormitory style accommodation
- Activities or excursions every day including full day excursions to tourist attractions in Scotland and Northern England twice a week.
- On site leisure facilities including riding, tennis, swimming, art and craft, football
- Off –site activities such as climbing, canoeing, mountain-biking, sailing, white-water rafting, go-karting, dry-slope skiing, ice-skating
- Evening entertainments, such as camp-fires, karaoke, ‘chocolate-time’
- All course material
- Welcome pack
- The chance to develop independence, fluency and confidence in using English thanks to the very safe, friendly area in which the courses take place
- Birthday party celebrations for those whose birthdays occur during their holiday.
- Additional excursions are available on request e.g.
- London to see a West End show and see all the major sites of England’s capital city, including, in August, a tour of Buckingham Palace.
- The world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Military Tattoo
For schools or agencies sending a group, one member of staff is accommodated free of charge for 8+students; for larger groups a further adult is also accommodated free of charge.
