International Students - Frequently Asked Questions

International Partner Agencies     Frequently Asked Questions

Q)  Who will meet my child at the airport?

R)  One of the school's senior management team, usually one of the directors, will meet your child and transport him/her to the school. In the event of a late flight, that member of staff will wait at the airport until the plane arrives.

Q)  Who will take my child back to the airport for the return journey?

R)  Usually Mrs Curry, one of the directors, will accompany your child to the airport and will remain there until the plane has departed. In the event of a flight cancellation or long delay, Mrs Curry, or her representative, will remain at the airport with your child until the problem is resolved.

Q)  Where does my child sleep?

R)  All our students are resident in dormitories.  The dormitories are from 4-8 students. There is one large boys' dormitory, which sleeps 12 - this one is always very popular!

Q)  Who looks after the children at night?

R)  The directors of the school are the resident staff on duty each night.

Q)  What happens if my child is taken ill, or is hurt?

R)  The school is registered with one of the local doctor’s surgeries and , if the doctor’s help is needed, your child willbe taken to the surgery. In the event of and accident, your child will be taken for treatment to the closest hospital.    Resident staff have the recognised Red Cross First Aid certificate.

Q)  What happens if my child is homesick?

R)  Homesickness is a very natural feeling and most children will experience it at one time or another when they are away. We try to keep the children as busy and active as possible throughout the day and encourage them to join in with everything. Homesickness usually comes when a child is feeling lost and uncertain of what to do next; in the carefully structured and well supervised days which we arrange for our students, we aim to keep such moments to the very minimum.

Q)  What about insurance?

R)  We advise that parents take out travel and medical insurance for their children in their own countries. The documentation for the insurance should arrive at Holme Park with the child.

Q)  What about contacting my child?

R)  We are very happy for you to call your child during the evening, after about 7.00 p.m GMT. Morning calls often interrupt a lesson and this spoils your child's concentration and enjoyment. Most afternoons the children are involved in activities and will frequently be away from the school premises. Please make sure that you know the time difference between where you are and where we are!

Q)  What about Foot and Mouth Disease?

R)  Foot and Mouth Disease, which ONLY affects cloven-hooved animals, such as sheep, cows and pigs, was a problem in England in 2000. Foot and Mouth Disease is NOT the same thing as Mad Cow Disease.
